Winter Camping in a cabin

Here we are last weekend at the Cowee Meadow cabin. (The tiny building over our shoulder) We spent friday night with some friends who had been there most of the week. The cabin was rustic, but it had a warm oil stove and plenty of mattresses up in the loft for us to crash on. We had our first experience with the boys on cross country skis. They took to it just fine. We didn't get to the cabin until after dark on Friday. It was a bit eerie following a three day old trail unable to see more than the small circle our headlights opened up for us. We finally saw the lights of the cabin and boy I felt relieved...better than the "snow cave under a pine tree in case of emergency" Ben mentioned under his breath to me about 45 minutes before we reached the cabin. It took us about 3 hours to go the 2.5 miles. It took us 2 to go home in the light.

Here is Clay having fun with his skis. After we woke up we skied over to a little hill and tried to ski down it. Bradley was good at it but Clay was
having none of it.

This is the mouth of Berner's Bay at low tide. The wind can get pretty fierce out here. Ben took his scouts for a camp-out on our boat out here and the wind pulled his anchor 3 times. You can see Clay and Bradley and one of our friend's kids.

Clay had to go to the bathroom so bad he didn't have time to put his jacket on.
I made him stop on the way back so I could take his picture.

Here's your lovely brother and son Ben posing for the camera in front of Lion's Head Mountain. You can see it's eyes and mane if you use your imagination.
